This stage of the Burren Way links the traditional music village of Doolin with pretty Ballyvaughan on the shores of Galway Bay, crossing the strange grey limestone hills that give the Burren its name (from boíreann, 'a rocky place').
The walking is mostly on green roads — old droving routes — and quiet lanes, with long gradual climbs and sweeping views over the Aran Islands and Connemara. At this distance it's a full day's walking; break it up or arrange transport at the far end.
