This inland stage of the Burren Way climbs from Ballyvaughan on Galway Bay into the high, hidden valleys of the central Burren around Carran, following green roads and quiet lanes through a landscape of limestone pavement, ring forts and turloughs.
Highlights include the ancient cooking site and church ruins around Carran and the strange, silent beauty of the karst uplands. The walking is steady rather than steep, but facilities en route are scarce — carry food and water.
