South of the mountains proper, the Wicklow Way relaxes into rolling farmland, and this stage from Moyne to Shillelagh crosses a countryside of drumlin hills, forestry and quiet lanes, with the Blackstairs and Mount Leinster growing on the southern horizon.
The walking is gentle and the waymarking excellent; Shillelagh itself, at the stage's end, is a pretty estate village that gave its name to the famous blackthorn cudgel. A peaceful day far from the crowds of the northern stages.
