The Wicklow Round (Part 1)

The Wicklow Round is a famous 100km+ mountain-running challenge over 26 Wicklow summits; this route covers its opening section, linking the northern hills of the range in one long, wild traverse over open mountain terrain.

This is a serious undertaking for fit, experienced hillwalkers: the ground is largely pathless heather and bog, navigation is demanding, and escape routes are limited. Tackled at walking pace it's a very long day — many walkers split it or treat sections as separate outings.
