Lough Ouler sits in a glacial corrie on the northeast face of Tonelagee, and its distinctive heart shape — best appreciated from the slopes above — has made it one of the most photographed spots in the Wicklow Mountains.
The approach from the Wicklow Gap road follows the Glenmacnass valley before climbing rough, boggy slopes to the lake shore. Many walkers continue up to the ridge above for the classic view down onto the heart. Waterproof boots are strongly advised; the ground is wet year-round.
