Lugnaquilla — 'Lug' to regulars — is the highest mountain in Leinster at 925m, and this route from Glenmalure is one of its classic approaches. From the valley floor the route climbs steadily via the Fraughan Rock Glen, with waterfalls and steep grassy ramps leading to the broad summit plateau known as Percy's Table.
The summit is flanked by two dramatic corries, the North and South Prisons, and the plateau is notoriously disorienting in mist — bring a map and compass and know how to use them. On a clear day the views stretch from Wales to Wexford.
