This stage of the Royal Canal Way follows the old towpath west from Enfield through quiet Meath and Westmeath farmland to Killucan, passing handsome stone bridges, locks and the long wooded cuttings that characterise this stretch of the 18th-century canal.
The walking is completely flat and easy to follow, with the Royal Canal Greenway surface making steady progress simple. As a linear route it needs transport arranged at either end, or can be sampled out-and-back from either village.
