Mullaghmeen Forest holds the largest planted beech forest in Ireland, and its network of waymarked trails makes for easy, sheltered walking in any season. The full loop takes in the modest summit of Mullaghmeen — at 258m the highest point in Westmeath — with views over Lough Sheelin.
Paths are wide forest tracks throughout, well suited to families, and highlights along the way include famine-era field boundaries and a hilltop viewpoint. A great option when the weather rules out higher hills.
