Walking the full perimeter of the Phoenix Park is a Dublin classic: roughly 12km around one of the largest enclosed urban parks in Europe. The route passes Áras an Uachtaráin, the US Ambassador's residence, Dublin Zoo, the Papal Cross and the Fifteen Acres, where the park's herd of wild fallow deer usually grazes.
Paths are surfaced or firm grass throughout and gradients are gentle, but the distance adds up — bring water and allow a solid half-day at a relaxed pace. Refreshments are available at the tea rooms and visitor centre.
