Starting from Donard Park in Newcastle, this route follows the Glen River through beautiful forest before climbing to the saddle between Slieve Donard (850m) — the highest mountain in Northern Ireland — and its neighbour Slieve Commedagh (767m), taking in both summits.
The famous Mourne Wall provides a handrail up the steep final slopes of each peak. On a clear day the views take in the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales, with the whole Mourne range spread at your feet. The climb is relentless in places, so allow plenty of time.
