Lough Meelagh sits between the heritage villages of Keadue and Knockvicar in north Roscommon, and this gentle loop explores its wooded shores, passing the ruins of Kilronan Abbey — burial place of the great harper Turlough O'Carolan — and the holy well of St. Lasair.
Paths are a mix of woodland trail, bog road and quiet lane, with no significant climbs. A quiet, historic corner of the country that few walkers know, ideal for an unhurried half-day.
