Diamond Hill (442m) in Connemara National Park offers perhaps the best-engineered mountain path in Ireland: gravel trail and stone steps all the way, making a real summit accessible to most reasonably fit walkers. The loop climbs from the visitor centre through bog and heath before circling the quartzite cone.
From the top, Kylemore Abbey, the island-studded coast, and the great wall of the Twelve Bens fill the horizon. The park's visitor centre, café and shorter trails make it a full family day out; the upper loop is exposed in strong wind.
